THE CORRELATION BETWEEN HEPCIDIN LEVELS AND IRON DEFICIENCY IN PEDIATRIC OBESITY
Obesity is characterized by the present of chronic low-grade inflammation, chronic inflammation can lead to abnormal iron homeostasis by decreasing intestinal absorption of iron and promoting its sequestration into storage pools, such as macrophages of the reticuloendothelial system, thereby lowering circulating iron. 2,3
Hepcidin, a type II acute phase peptide, plays a central role in the regulation of iron homeostasis. Hepcidin expression is induced by inflammation (by lipopolysaccharide and interleukin-6) and iron overload condition, it is strongly suggest that hepcidin induced dysregulation of iron homeostasis by inhibit iron efflux from macrophage and reticuloendothelial system and decrease intestinal absorption.4,5
Hepcidin, a key regulator of iron homeostasis, is increased in response to inflammation like obesity. Thereby important to study more early to detect dysregulation of iron homeostasis with measure hepcidin level.4,5
Iron deficiency remains the most common nutritional deficiency in the world. Iron deficiency has been linked to behavioral and learning problems among children and adolescents, increased risks for preterm infants and small infants among pregnant women, and problems with work and exercise capacity among adults. Screening for iron deficiency anemia among vulnerable populations, high risk toddlers and adolescent female subjects, is recommended by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics. However , according to the most recent NHANES data (1999-2000), the percentage of children with iron deficiency remains 2 to 5 percentage points above 2010 national objectives.6,7,8
A few small studies have noted a possible associated between iron deficiency and chronic inflammation like obesity. Studies about it never do in Indonesian.

Good dispatch and this mail helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you as your information.
obesity kills people, lots of diseases are triggered by obesity;`”
my sister has dyslexia but she can live a very normal life eventhough she can’t read that much…
obesity is a grownig problem these days coz of a bad lifestyle and diet,,:
dyslexia can affect anyone of use but this disease is not very debilitating anyway”,:
